Artwork:
This Reagan Flag design was made in representation of my schools aspects. As there is a focus on the collaboration of IB, Reagan and MPS within the flag as it correlated to the schools main parties. This flag focuses on presenting the schools main goals for its students. The main colors of blue is also consistently used through the flag in order to represent the three parties and the schools aspirations. Aspects of the flag do not manipulate other work.
Inspiration/ Critical Investigation:
LaoThe current Lao flag was officially present in 1975. Loa is a communist state, while Can be seen through symbolism. As the circle can be interpreted as a whole presence of the communist state. The white of the circle is also said to represent the moon on a night sky. This aspect of symbolism focuses of the aspects of the land of Lao’s. The blue also holds a multi meaning with the sky and being used to represent wealth. The use of the color red on the border, of the top and bottom of the flag are used to represent a struggle. As the people of Lao had blood shed (war) in order to gain freedom. This struggle that affected the people is represented within the falg through the color red. This simple falg holds multiple meaning though the same symbols and colors.

Saint Kitts and NevisThe flag was created by Edrice Lewis, for Saint Kitts and Nevis. It was first hoisted in 1983, which represented the presence of a new flag for the changing circumstances of the islands. The Falg holds meaning with the color and symbolism within the design. As the green is used to represent the growth of the land, while the red is present for the strength of the fight of the people, in order to achieve freedom. There is also reflection of the weather of the area through the color yellow, for the sun. Within symbolism there is a presneace of two stars, which represent Saint Kitts and Nevis. These two diffrent stars do not differ, though represent two diffrent loactions. The stars themselves symbolize “liberty”.

Process/ Techniques/ Experimentation:
Process:
In order to create the final piece, multiple steps were conducted. Initial a standard size sheet of blank paper is used in order to outline the basic form of the flag. This is done in pencil and with a ruler. A ruler is used in order to gain proper and porportional mesurments. For instance for this falg design the paper is divided into three even sections. Each section is three inches in length, in order to make up the horizontal sections of the flag. Then a tool is used in order to form the rounded circles. The same tool is used and the placement is outlined, in order for the circles to align. The amount in which the intersect is also mesured in order to achieve symetry. Once an efficient sketch is completed, the coloring is then begun. The main colors used for the flag are blue, grey and yellow. As blue outlines the flag while also being within the center. When coloring with colored pencils, it is best to maintain the same direction with each stroke. As the strokes used when coloring are apparent. I also used my colors in order, this was done in order to avoid major/unwanted blending. For instance the yellow was done last for the interception in order to avoid color transfer. As it is wanted for the rest of the circle to be a pure yellow. Also when coloring with the colored pencils multiple layers are done over the initial layer, in order to rid of line marks and white spaces. After the wanted falg in completed by outlining and coloring, then the falg is completed.
The mounting process of the flag is the final step of the peice. A black mounting board is used, and will surround the flag design. In order to use the board, it is needed for the original size to be cut down. This consist of one side, that is needed to be cut. The mesurments given for the cut to be done, can be seen above. Initially a ruler is used in order to outline the placement of the flag, and its surrounding boarder. When cutting the board and exacto knife is used. The board is cut with multiple strokes. A ruler is also used in order to form as a steady line, for which the board will be cut. Once the cutting process is complete than the mounting of the flag is to be done. In order to spray the flag, a spray booth is used. An adhesive spray that is seen above is also used when mounting. The flag is placed with the booth under a clean sheet of scrap. The paper is placed with the blank side facing up. The spray booth is turned on,in order to function. Than a light/thin coat of the spray is placed onto the paper. Once this is complete it is than transfers onto the board using the mesurments placed earlier. The corners and entire sheet is than flatended in order to secure the flag design. Once this mounting process is complete than the flag is done.

Techniques:
When creating the flag design, various techniques were used. When using colored pencils, the strokes done where is the same direction and pressure. The goal was to keep the coloring even throughout the flag design. As using the same strokes within the same direction allowed for an even color. Multiple layers where also placed upon, in order to further even out the color and fill the white space. The use of multiple layers also allowed for a solid an darker tone to be achived. Overall these aspects conducted when coloring with colored pencils were important to the presentation.
A helpful guide was nessary when creating the flag design within both the design and mounting of the flag. As a ruler is used constantly throughout the making of this piece. The use of a ruler allowed for proper outling and por portions. This was helpful to the design aspect and the presentation aspect of the flag. A ruler and outling constantly served as a guide when making the flag design.

Reflection/ Critique: |
Evaluations: |
When creating the design for the flag, there where points of learning throughout the process. For instance the use of the color gray within the flag could be of a lighter shade yet more prominent. This could have been done through multiple coats rather than the use of a darker shade. This overall relates to the use of colored pencils with the flag design. When cutting the mounting board, there could have been a better use of pressure and grip. As the process of cutting the board required a straight line to be cut multiple times. As a clean cut was the final wanted for the mounting board.

Various forms of inspirations were used in order to create the flag. This includes the Lao and Saint Kitts and Nevis flags. This also includes the Reagan, IB and MPS goals and logos. For the design aspects of the flag the two country flags were used as inspiration. The Saint Kitts Nevis Flag served as a source of inspiration for the use of multiple objects within the center of the flag. As within the flags meaning, these multiples also represent a concept. This design is transferred into my own piece of the flag design. The Lao flag served as a main source of inspiration for the design. As the aspect ratios of the flag served as an inspiration for the concept to be used for my own design. This includes the three section division and the placement of a center object. Though the Lao flag has each section hold a bold color, while the circle remains white. My own design opposes this use of color through the contrast of the white being the background and not within the foreground. This presence of inspiration impacted my artwork.
The focus of Reagan, IB and MPS servers as inspiration of the meaning, values and color of the flag design. As the main purpose of the flag is convey and represent Reagan as a school. As it can be seen within the flag, especially through the use of color. There is a use of blue which is taken from all three parties. While within the center of the flag each holds its own color form. While these three logos and values of each party servers as inspiration for the design, there is no direct aspect taken from the individual designs. Rather there is a transfer of interpretation of the values into a visual format. |
Ideas:
To the left the ideas, concepts and inspiration are outlined, in relation to the flag. Initially there is a focus on the use of a flag in order to communicate an idea. As this has to due with the presentation of the flag, with a key focus on being visible. Contrast within a flag allows for a more structured and easily visible appearance. The general use of symbolism, is also outlined in the forms of direction, and within the sky. The form of simple, symbolism is focused on in order to convey concepts while also being visible. The use of simple symbolism allows for a memorable, and appealing appearance for a flag. Flags that follow this construct well are listed bellow, within the notes. The elements of design are then next noted and focused upon. This includes design and form, this includes line, value ect. The use of color is also focused upon through the values and tones. Lastly there is an outline of the core values that are to be used. These are related to the England flag combination of the core values of multiple areas. In this case it will be used for the core values of the three "parties".

Experimentation:
Experimentation was conducted for the texture of the colored pencils. As this was an important factor to the final design of the flag. This can be seen above, the colored pencils are tested. As experimentation was conducted with the pressure of the color pencil. The focus of this was to gain insight of the best way to color the flag, in order to form a smooth surface. Overall these trial conducted with the colored pencils allowed for a better insight of the use and transfer of color.

The process of cutting the mounting board was not a simple task, as various errors and trials occurred in order to achieve the final piece. As when cutting with the exacto knife, the final product should be a clean aligned cut. While with the mounting board used this may only be achived throigh multiple strokes, which cut at the same area. Through experimentation the process of cutting the board was practiced. This was done in order to be ready to cut the final mounting board that was to used for the flag design.

Reflection:
In reflection to the flag design, there were various success and lessons learned. These lessons learned are to be transferred into future projects. A success of the flag design, is the format or the forms placed. As there is symmetry present within the basic format of the flag. This was achieved through the use of measurements and a ruler. I also believe that the interpretation and transfer of the ideals of three separate parties, was conducted well. As Reagan, IB and MPS are each individual and stand alone, though withhold each other. As Reagan is an MPS and IB school, while IB and MPS do also stand alone. This leaves room for interpretation and evaluation of those values. An error and experimentation present when making the flag design, was gained when making the mounting board. As he cutting process and mounting served as a new experience. The process of experimentation with fine and clean cute was conducted with the mounting board. As through failures a better undertaking and understanding of the board itself was gained. Overall this multi step process of creating the flag design, allowed for a better undertaking and gain in skills.

Clearly explain how you are able to identify the cause effect relationship between your inspiration and its effect on your artwork?
The inspirations used for the flag, impacted the structure and the use of elements within the design. This is most relevant for the use of line and division within the flag, that is inspired by the Lao flag. Even the use of round circles, served as a point of inspiration based of the flag.
What is the overall approach the author has regarding the topic of your inspiration?
Each respective flag uses their flag in order to convey there countries history, cultural aspects and land. This is done through the sue of symbolism and color. Not one concept is conveyed through the flag, but rather multiple one correlate within the design.
What kind of generalization and conclusions have you discovered about people, ideas, culture, etc. while you researched your inspiration?
I have found through my research, the key and best concepts are wanted to be portrayed within a flag. This is also best done through simple yet meaningful symbolism. The particular flags used for research, focus on a development/growth of the country.
What is the central idea or theme around your inspirational research?
Further research was conducted in order to gain an insight of the three "parties" core values, and use of color. Research was also conducted on the use of symbolism through shapes, in order to form a unity. This central idea was on the presentation of the core values of Reagan.
What kind of inferences did you make while reading your research?
Inferences made when conducting research, where directed towards the general assumption of the core values, in regards to presentation. As this use of inferences, became interpenetration in order to transfer onto the flags design.
